McAdams is seeking an energetic planning professional to join our Planning + Design team as an Urban Planner in our downtown Raleigh office. Working in a collaborative team environment this person will be responsible for helping grow our creative Parks, Urban Planning and Design practice. Position Purpose The selected candidate will collaborate with the Planning and Design team and other services and market sectors within the firm to produce high-quality plans, designs, reports, graphics, documents, and materials related to various projects within our national practice. The urban planning position would primarily focus on public sector projects for communities across the US including small areas plans, downtown plans, corridor studies, system plans, visioning and strategic plans, and other short and long-term planning projects. To support planning projects, the successful candidate will complete various inventories and assessments, data analysis, policy audits, site investigations, and gap analysis as a basis for plan recommendations and action items. Candidates will be asked to provide work samples / portfolio electronically when submitting their resume. Essential Functions + Responsibilities * Work with the planning and design team to develop short and long-term planning documents; * Complete data analysis, narratives, conceptual design, due diligence research, site analysis, GIS mapping, and master planning; * Prepare graphics, diagrams and charts to graphically document complex concepts in an easily understood form; * Deliver presentations to elected officials, advisory boards, stakeholders and the public; * Develop and execute comprehensive community engagement plans; * Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team; * Contribute to the overall success and happiness of the team; * Be willing to travel for projects, training, and company events. Qualifications * Bachelors or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Planning or related field from an accredited program * 3-6 years of land planning and or landscape architecture experience * Ability to work within a collaborative team environment and communicate effectively with project team and manager * Strong written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills * Experience in the development of project planning documents; * Strong interest in design of the built environment and placemaking for different land uses * Commitment to team success and personal career growth * Possess excellent organizational and time management skills * AutoCAD, Adobe Suite software, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office Suite experience * AICP or RLA licensure, or in the pursuit of licensure.
