About BSIM: Breaking Silos in Medicine (BSIM) is a pioneering multispecialty practice dedicated to serving primarily the medically underserved population. Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team at BSIM. The ideal candidate will be passionate about serving the urban/underserved population, possess cultural sensitivity, and have experience in Community Health.


Qualifications:

  • Must possess a current, permanent, full, and unrestricted District of Columbia license
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • A minimum of two years of pediatric practice experience
  • Experience in serving the urban/underserved population and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to assess the current medical, psychiatric, psychological, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral status and patterns of the patient
  • Knowledge of community resources to provide continuity of patient care
  • Familiarity with Medicaid documentation requirements for federal reimbursement


Responsibilities:

  • Obtain a comprehensive mental health and developmental history from the patient or family member and document findings in the patient record
  • Assess mental health and developmental history to develop a treatment plan tailored to the unique needs of our patient population
  • Perform or request special mental health screenings, developmental screenings, order diagnostic and laboratory tests, and interpret results
  • Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings to identify early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental health problems
  • Make independent decisions regarding mental health care needs and treatment plans
  • Identify psychiatric diagnoses, prescribe psychotropic medications when appropriate, and recommend or administer mental health therapy
  • Provide direct mental health care to maintain life, provide comfort, reduce distress, and enhance coping ability
  • Identify components of a therapeutic treatment regimen that may be delegated to the mental health therapy team
  • Monitor adherence to mental health treatment plans to stabilize acute and chronic mental health conditions
  • Adjust mental health treatment plans within established protocols and refer to a Psychiatrist or other treatment team member when necessary
  • Collaborate with the mental health treatment team in managing complex mental health conditions
  • Plan and coordinate treatment with other professionals and agencies involved in providing services to families
  • Provide a full range of emergency services or crisis intervention, including mental health destabilization and lifesaving procedures, as needed
  • Function as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, providing psychiatric services to patients in foster care
  • Assist in performing medical screenings as needed
